Hair fall/Alopecia

Most people routinely lose hair from their scalp each day, mainly through washing, brushing, and combing. Scalp hair starts to thin when more hairs are lost through normal shedding than the scalp is able to renew. About 40% of the density of scalp hair has to be lost before thinning of the hair becomes noticeable.

Classification of Hair fall:

General hair fall:

Patient lose their hair generally through out the scalp and hair thins gradually. This is mostly seen in the male than female. This is also known as Androgenic Alopecia.

Traction Alopecia:

This type is mostly seen in the women which is caused primarily by pulling force applied to the hair such as, type pony tail, rubber bands etc.

Trichotillomania:

Trichotillomania is a urge to pullout own hair leading to noticeable hair loss. Mostly seen in the infants and depressed people.

Telogen effluvium:

Telogen effluvium is a rapid shedding of the hair, resulting from the early entry of the hair into Telogen face. This is usually caused by child birth, viral fevers, surgery, crash diets etc.

Tanea Capitis:

Tanea Capitis is a fungal infection in the scalp. This may involve part of the scalp or all of it. There will be severe itching in the scalp. Sometimes with the black dot pattern, may be accompanied by scaling, pustules etc.
