Eczema

Eczema is genral term for a group of medical conditions in which the skin to become inflamed or irritated. The most common type of eczema is known as atopic dermatitis, or atopic eczema..
Eczema affects about 10% to 20% of infants and about 3% of adults and children.
In siddha this disease is called karappan. This is of two types one is dry type and another wet type and history runs for months to years.
Always karappan starts with itching locally. In dry type only itching followed by scaling, hyperpigmentation, hyper keratinisation. In wet type itching followed with vesicles , oozing , then hyperpigmentation and only in later stage hyperkeratanisation.
This is caused by hyper reaction of our body to allergens. Most common is caused by the contact of allergens like cosmetics, plants, insects, hard soaps, detergents etc. contact with those allergens causes ithching then redness etc follow. Continous contact to those allergens aggravate the problem an becomes hyper pigmented, hyper keratinized patches.common area is knee, wrist, arm, legs. Sometimes patches get infected this condition we have to acess and then decide on treatment. Stasis of blood may be one of the cause of eczema eg.varicose veins,
Stress and strains usually increase all skin diseases.
