Fungal Infections

Fungal infection is common and mostly is seen as skin infection. The common complaint of the patient is itching mostly in and around thigh,hips,axilla etc.it can affect from head to toe. Symptoms of fungal infection vary redness, small scales resembling dry skin and can be seen in particular area or several areas of the body. It is named according to the place it affects, Tinea pedis – foot, Tinea unguium – nail, Tinea cruris – groin, Tinea corporis – ring worm of body, Tinea capitis – scalp etc.

Causes:

  • have recently taken a course of high antibiotics
  • are pregnant
  • having diabetes
  • have a weakened immune system, for example, HIV/AIDS
  • are overweight
  • come into direct contact with another person or an animal that has a fungal skin infection
  • have indirect contact with items contaminated with a fungus, for example, clothes, towels and bedclothes
  • walk barefoot in shower and pool areas
  • don’t dry yourself after sweating or bathing
  • wear tight clothing that doesn’t allow sweat to evaporate
  • using common toilets or unhigenic toilet
  • not washing our clothes properly
  • not drying the clothes properly
  • drying the clothes in shaded,or closed areas without exposure to sunlight

In siddha this is called padai. Since the basic cause of suppression in immunity , siddha system of medicines provide excellent medicine. Siddha system takes the body and maind as one and corrects the root cause. so most of the diseases are cured completely and the system also advices way of living, meditation ,exercise etc to prevent the disease. How to avoid these infections:

  1. Regular exercise like jogging,playing outdoor games in morning or evenings
  2. having bath twice a day
  3. completely drying the body with clean towel
  4. washing inner wears cleanly and drying them in sunlight
  5. frequently changing the inner wears
  6. wearing proper size inner wears
  7. avoiding unhigenic toilets
  8. proper control of diabetis
